How We Came to Be One Church in Two Locations

In the fall of 1984, Lamont and Tamara Herrington and their two young sons, Wesley and Nathan, moved from Annapolis, Maryland to Troy, Alabama. Bro. Herrington was sent by God to pastor the church there in Troy. Through his ministry, many souls were added to the church throughout Pike and surrounding counties. A prayer ministry was born. The church was involved in both jail and prison ministry as well as nursing home ministry. Home cell groups (small home group meetings) were another component of church ministry as well as women's conferences. All aspects of ministry shared the same message: “We put before you Jesus Christ and becoming more like Him.”
It was during this time that Pastor and Sis. Herrington had their third child - a girl and named her Eleyce.
Around 1998, Pastor Herrington met and became ministry friends with a pastor in Greenville, Butler County named Dorothy Moore. She pastored a congregation at Bible Way Church. The church was located on U.S. Highway 31 in Greenville. When Pastor Moore transitioned from this life, Pastor Herrington became the pastor in both Greenville and Troy.
The next few years saw many changes as God brought the two congregations together under one pastor, Bishop Lamont Herrington. In 2001, a building was put on Butler County Road 50, land that had been owned by Dorothy Moore. The building was originally called Lifeway Retreat and Training Center. Its construction was miraculously completed in 30 days, and the two churches hosted their first family camp meeting together that summer. Women's conferences were held at this location as well. Also, at this time, the name of the churches were combined into Lifeway Ministries, established 2001.
As time went on, Bishop Herrington combined the church services, alternating between the two locations. In Greenville, church services were moved from the Highway 31 location to County Road 50, which was renamed Lifeway Ministries - Greenville. Currently, on first and third Sundays, services are held in Troy. On second and fourth Sundays, services are held in Greenville. Under his leadership, each church operates individually but come together in unity for the purpose of winning souls, making disciples, serving the community, and putting Jesus before everyone we meet.
In 2016, under Bishop Herrington's leadership, Lifeway Ministries Troy relocated to a new building on U.S. Highway 29 South. Lifeway Ministries has since then started a radio broadcast every Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. on WTBF-FM in Troy, and a Facebook livestream of our service every Sunday at noon.
